Neurology

Neurology specializes in treating diseases of the nervous system. The nervous system is made of two parts: the central and peripheral nervous system. It includes the brain and spinal cord. Pain is an event of a nervous system.

There are three most common types of pain that are managed by neurologists on a daily basis. Those are headaches, spinal, and peripheral nerve pain.

Other neurological conditions that may require intense treatment include:

  • Neuropathic pain. It can be excruciating to the patients and requires a specialized treatment that may require different treatment approaches.
  • Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It is a condition that is caused by an injury in which nerves are damaged. Examples would be impinged nerves, soft tissue injuries, severe wounds after various accidents.
  • Post traumatic chronic pain. Such pain usually follows after a brain injury and may affect various cognitive skills, mood swings and personality disorders.

The ultimate goals of pain treatment include:

  • Treatment of underlying conditions and diseases
